Work in Progress

Cloudy Day Wrap - week 1

About two weeks ago, I started to work on my new design, Cloudy Day Wrap, knitted in Knitpicks Gradient Stroll yarn in color named "Sea You Later".

About the same time we also adopted a puppy from animal shelter and somehow my knitting time evaporated.  But things are getting better, and I did find few moments in between the chaos to sit down and knit. The puppy usually keeps me company.

Cloudy Day Wrap - week 2

 I am about half way through the work on the wrap and I just love how the color changes from dark to light. The second skein of yarn will be knit in reverse order, from light to dark. Once the sample is done and the pattern is written and edited and tested, we still need to take good photographs. I already envision the photo shoot taking place somewhere on a beach.

Knitting Pattern for Roland, the raccoon

The mystery KAL for this adorable raccoon is finished, and the complete pattern is available now.
The toy is knitted in the rounds, limbs, tail, and head worked separately and sewn on. The technique intarsia in the rounds is used for the head, or optional is to use duplicate stitch.

The finished toy is approximately 9" / 23 cm sitting, and 15" / 38 cm head to tail long.

Worked in worsted yarn, Knitpicks Mighty Stitch, you will need less than a skein each of grey color, black color, white color, and red color.

Knitting Pattern for Polka Dot Cowl

Do you often stand in front of your closet undecided and wondering what to wear?

 Do you feel sometimes like wearing stripes, or perhaps polka dots, or half and half? The construction of this whimsical cowl lets you wear it in three different ways, depending on your mood.

This cowl is knit in the rounds, start with provisional cast on, work on stripe section, then the polka dot section, and finishing it with Kitchener stitch.

Finished Size:

Cowl:  26” (66 cm) long (circumference)  and 10” (26 cm) wide (tall).

Suggested Yarn: KnitPicks Hawthorne, fingering weight (80% Superwash Fine Highland Wool, 20% Polyamide; 357 yards / 100 grams)

1 skein Slate Kettle Dye 26688 – MC

1 skein Rose City 26432 – CC

Or use any of your favorite fingering weight yarn with similar yardage.

DVT, PE, and LIFE

Life can be full of surprises. In my knitting world I missed the sixth anniversary of this blog existence. However I do have a good reason; even though I try to keep my knitting world and my personal world separated the two has combined together in a strange twist of fate.

I had been diagnosed with DVT, and PE, I am happy to be alive, and am under the care of doctors. This is my second occurrence of DVT; about twelve years ago I had a brand new baby and was admitted to a hospital with massive DVT. It was hard; my family lives on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, my husband had to go to work to keep us afloat, and to keep our health insurance, and I was in pain, alone, and scared of not having the opportunity to watch my kid grow up. This time, things are slightly better. Luckily we still have health insurance, though when the doctor's bills will start arriving it will get tough, but I have a job to return to. Even though it's an hourly paid job that fits between the bus stop wait, I still have it. Also I have a blossoming and slowly growing side business for designing knitting patterns. Thank you for every single purchase of my knitting patterns, I really appreciate that, it encourages me to keep designing.

On my way to recovery I have to concentrate on positive thoughts, and focus on the fact that I am alive, and not to dwell on what could have happened.

This week I kept myself busy with reorganizing my yarn stash. It was something that I wanted to do for some time, but life was too busy with other things and commitments, but now I had the time and opportunity.
