Knitting Pattern for Sockeaters

Have you ever wondered what happens to all those missing socks?

These guys - Sockeaters are the culprit.

They are a great project to knit from a self striping sock yarn or sport to medium worst weight yarn in funky colors.

You will need less than a ball of yarn,  5 double pointed needles, two funky buttons for the eyes and a single sock (cute baby sock in complimenting colors works great).

Knitting Pattern for Fateaters

Fateaters

Finished Toy Size: 6" (16cm)
Yarn: Less than a ball of your favorite yarn in medium weight.
Recommended Needle Size: DPN US #3/3.25mm (set of 4)
Notions: Yarn needle, crochet hook, scissors, stitch marker, polyester fiberfill (1 small bag), small amount of red yarn for lips and two funky buttons for eyes.
Abbreviations: KFB = Knit in front and back of the same sts, it creates 2sts from 1st.
SSK = Slip st, slip st and knit the 2sts together, this decrease 2sts to 1st.
Gauge: Will vary with the yarn used.
INSTRUCTIONS:
This monster is knitted in the rounds, start at the bottom of his/her body, continue to top of the head. The arms and legs could be sewn on or use the same technique as I have explained in my post "How to attach the arms without sewing them on" from June 2011.
Body:
The skinnier Fateater:
With the yarn and three double pointed needles, cast on 6sts (2sts per needle). Place the stitch marker on the first st and begin working in the rounds.
Row 1: Knit around (6sts total)
Row 2: KFB all around, 4sts per needle (12sts total)
Row 3: Knit around (12sts total)
Row 4: KFB all around, 8sts per needle (24sts total)
Row 5: Knit around (24sts total)
Row 6: *KFB, knit 1; repeat from * around, 12sts per needle (36sts total)
Row 7: Knit around (36sts total)
Row 8: *KFB, knit 2; repeat from * around, 16sts per needle (48sts total)
Row 9 - 22: Knit around (48sts total)
Row 23: *SSK, knit 6; repeat from * around, 14sts per needle (42sts total)
Row 24 - 26: Knit around (42sts total)
Row 27: *SSK, knit 5; repeat from * around, 12sts per needle (36sts total)
Row 28 - 30: Knit around (36sts total)
Row 31: *SSK, knit 4; repeat from * around, 10sts per needle (30sts total)
Row 32 - 34: Knit around (30sts total)
Row 35: *SSK, knit 1; repeat from * around, 6 or 7 sts per needle (20sts total). Thread the tail from the cast on stitches on a yarn needle. Stitch through all of the cast on stitches, pull up tight to close the hole and stitch to secure. Begin to stuff the body with fiberfill.
Row 36 - 48: Knit around (20sts total)
Row 49: *SSK, knit 2; repeat from * around, (15sts total)
Row 50: Knit around (15sts total)
Row 51: *SSK, knit 1; repeat from * around, (10sts total)
Row 52: Knit around (10sts total). Finish stuffing the body. Cut the yarn, leaving long enough tail, and thread the tail on a yarn needle. Pull the end through the remaining stitches on needles, gather up and close the hole, stitch to secure.
The larger Fateater:
With the yarn and three double pointed needles, cast on 6sts (2sts per needle). Place the stitch marker on the first st and begin working in the rounds.
Row 1: Knit around (6sts total)
Row 2: KFB all around, 4sts per needle (12sts total)
Row 3: Knit around (12sts total)
Row 4: KFB all around, 8sts per needle (24sts total)
Row 5: Knit around (24sts total)
Row 6: *KFB, knit 1; repeat from * around, 12sts per needle (36sts total)
Row 7: Knit around (36sts total)
Row 8: *KFB, knit 1; repeat fom * around, 18sts per needle (54sts total)
Row 9: Knit around (54sts total)
Row 10: *KFB, knit 2; repeat from * around, 24sts per needle (72sts total)
Row 11 - 24: Knit around (72sts total)
Row 25: *SSK, knit 6; repeat from * around, 21sts per needle (63sts total)
Row 26 - 28: Knit around (63sts total)
Row 29: *SSK, knit 5; repeat from * around, 18sts per needle (54sts total)
Row 30 - 32: Knit around (54sts total)
Row 33: *SSK, knit 4; repeat from * around, 15sts per needle (45sts total)
Row 34 - 36: Knit around (45sts total)
Row 37: *SSK, knit 1; repeat from * around, 10 sts per needle (30sts total). Thread the tail from the cast on stitches on a yarn needle. Stitch through all of the cast on stitches, pull up tight to close the hole and stitch to secure. Begin to stuff the body with fiberfill.
Row 38 - 50: Knit around (30sts total)
Row 51: SSK all around,  5 sts per needle (15sts total)
Row 52: Knit around (15sts total)
Row 53: *SSK, knit 1; repeat from * around, 3 or 4 sts per needle(10sts total)
Row 54: Knit around (10sts total). Finish stuffing the body. Cut the yarn, leaving long enough tail, and thread the tail on a yarn needle. Pull the end through the remaining stitches on needles, gather up and close the hole, stitch to secure.

Arms (make 2): With the yarn and 3DPN cast on 6sts (2sts per needle). Place a stitch marker and begin working in the round.
Row 1 - 19: Knit around (6sts total)
Row 20: KFB all around, 4sts per needle (12sts total)
Row 21 - 22: Knit around (12sts total)
Row 23: SSK all around, 2sts per needle (6sts total). Lightly stuff the hand part of arm. Cut the yarn, leaving long enough tail, and thread the end on a yarn needle. Pull the end through the remaining stitches on needles, gather up and close the hole, stitch to secure. Sew the arm on the body using the picture as a guide.
Repeat for the second arm.

Legs (make 2):With the yarn and 3DPN cast on 8sts (3 or 2sts per needle). Place a stitch marker and begin working in the round.
Row 1 - 12: Knit around (8sts total)
Row 13: KFB all around (16sts total)
Row 14 - 15: Knit around (16sts total)
Row 16: SSK all around (8sts total).
Row 17: Knit around (8sts total).Lightly stuff the feet part of leg. Cut the yarn, leaving long enough tail, and thread the end on a yarn needle. Pull the end through the remaining stitches on needles, gather up and close the hole, stitch to secure. Sew the leg on the body using the picture as a guide.
Repeat for the second leg.

Finishing:
Lips: With two DPN and red yarn cast on 4sts.
Row 1: Knit 4, then turn the work upside down, with second needle pick up and knit 4sts along the cast on edge.
Row 2: Knit around, 4sts per needle (8sts total)
Row 3: *KFB, knit 2, KFB; repeat from * around (12sts total)
Row 4: Knit and cast off from both DPN at the same time. Cut the yarn, leaving long enough tail, and thread the end on a yarn needle. Sew the lips on the face of Fateater using the picture as a guide.
Sew the two buttons as the Fateaters eyes.

Who ate my chocolate...

For some time my chocolate have been disappearing. I tried to hide it. But it did not help, the chocolate still went missing.
Today we caught them in the act. They were eating my favorite chocolate...... Fateaters!
Beware, they might sneak in your house too and eat all the chocolate and candy.

Minions......

Our Minion finally got a friend........

If life would happen according to plans, this second minion would be finished around Christmas time. By now there would be few more minions, the pattern would be written, edited and test knitted. And I would write this post about the new knitting pattern.

But life tends to change the plans.

The pattern is still not written, or edited or test knitted.

It will be done. I am sure about that. I am just not sure about when that's going to happen. I hope, it will be very soon.

Lottery Winners...

Random Act of Kindness.....

What actually is random act of kindness?

Is there a definition for it?

Would a gift to charity count as a one?
Would donation of the knitted toys to PTO at school count as one?
Would a toy left in a random place to be found by a stranger count as one?
Would a toy mailed out to a somebody's child count as one?
Whatever is the definition I will continue to give away the toys, with a little hope that they are loved and cared for in their new homes.....

Time to celebrate...

...the first year anniversary.

It's hard to believe, but the first post for this blog Stana's Critters etc was written exactly one year ago, March 3rd 2011.

In a way it's like watching a child growing up. From day to day we do not see much difference, but from a distance we can see the change.
It is hard to share a birthday cake in the virtual world, but I can share something else.
