Knitting Pattern for Nine Lives Hat

Nine Lives Hat

A friend saw picture of our FSM with his new pink hat and asked me to make her an adult version.
I have used worsted weight yarn and wrote the pattern for this very simple, yet versatile pattern named Nine Lives. The hat is worked in the rounds, the stitches for the ears are picked up directly on the hat.

For anyone who wish to knit their own version of this particular hat,
I used Caron Simply Soft acrylic yarn and DPN needles US 5/ 3.75 mm
The size that fits FSM
CO 40 sts.
Begin to work in the round.
Round 1 - 5: Knit
Round 6: (SSK, K8) 4x (36 sts total)
Round 7: (SSK, K7) 4x (32 sts total)
Round 8: (SSK, K6) 4x (28 sts total)
Round 9: (SSK, K5) 4x (24 sts total)
Round 10: (SSK, K4) 4x (20 sts total)
Round 11: (SSK, K3) 4x (16 sts total)
Round 12: (SSK, K2) 4x (12 sts total)
Round 13: (SSK, K1) 4x (8 sts total)
Round 14: (SSK) 4x (4 sts total)
Cut the yarn, leaving long enough tail, and thread the end on a yarn needle. Pull the end through the remaining stitches on needles, gather up and close the hole. Stitch to secure.

Ears (make 2):
Pick up directly on the hat 10 sts (5 + 5 sts)  along the top part of the hat. Join to work in the round.
Round 1: Knit
Round 2: (SSK, K1, K2tog) 2x (6 sts total)
Round 3: (K3tog) 2x (3 sts total)
Cut the yarn, leaving long enough tail, and thread on a yarn needle. Pull the end through the remaining stitches on needles, gather up and close the hole. Stitch to secure.

Weave in the ends.

The gauge is 20 sts and 26 rows per 4" in stockinette stitch

Needle Felting Class

Class set up

Every once in a while I like to create small critters using the needle felting technique. Once in a while our local library offers the needle felting class. The regular instructor couldn't make it and I was asked if I could teach the class.

I think the people who came enjoyed it, and in less than two hours they created needle felted pumpkin and few acorns.
